Sport injuries

A sports injury is any sport related injury that occurs during exercise.

Sports injuries are commonly caused by overtraining, overuse, poor technique, direct impact, or the application of force that is greater than the body part can structurally withstand.

There are two types of sport injuries, acute and overuse. An acute injury occurs due to sudden trauma to the tissue, with the symptoms presenting almost immediately. Overuse injury is caused by repetitive and excessive loading of the tissue, with symptoms coming on gradually. The most common sports injuries are ankle sprains, knee injuries, rotator cuff injuries, shin splints, fractures and dislocations.

Whether you have an acute or overuse injury, physiotherapy is considered the best first-line treatment. With a correct diagnosis, hands-on treatment, postural advice, and an exercise programme tailored to your needs you can get back to your usual fitness level and pain-free movement.
