Tailbone pain
Coccydynia or tailbone pain refers to the pain and sensation of general discomfort around the coccyx region and is mainly aggravated by a sitting.
Coccyx or a tail bone is the terminal part of the vertebral column. It is a triangular shaped bone resembling a shortened tail located at the bottom of the spine.
Although the coccyx is a small bone, it provides attachment points for the gluteus maximus and levator ani muscle which is a key component of the pelvic floor.
The main causes of coccyx pain are trauma during a fall, coccyx injury during childbirth and poor posture caused by prolonged sitting or cycling.
Physiotherapy can be very helpful to relieve the symptoms of coccyx pain. If you would like to book an appointment to get an accurate diagnosis and treatment plan, please contact me.
